The day couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for all those who sponsored and supported the day and all those families and businesses who came along. The event, which took place at Niagara Sports & Social Club, saw the organisers and local company, A.E.L. and their football team take on three other organisations including South Yorkshire Police, Rotherham Council and Hill & Co Accountants in an 11-a-side tournament. There was also an ‘active’ theme for families throughout the day including a tug-of-war with strongman, Mark Anglesea, rides, golf with pro, Rob Calderbank from Loxley Driving Range, and a penalty shoot-out for children at half time.
Although the South Yorkshire Police football team were the main trophy winners at the end of the day, we at Air Environmental were more than happy with the outcome:
“It was a fantastic day and we were thrilled to raise so much money for the two charities with the help of all of our supporters and sponsors on the day. We would like to say a huge thank you to Uriah Rennie for coming along to hand out the trophies, and also to Manbeast Strongman events who supported the day and brought Mark Anglesea to do the tug of war, as well as Move More. We would’ve liked to have won the big trophy but at the end of the day, we had over 500 people come out and support us, lots of families enjoyed the activities that we put on for the community and everyone had fun. That was the main aim of the day and we are thrilled to have risen over £2,000 with money still coming in,” says Richard Hepworth, Director at A.E.L..
The day was supported by Hill & Co Accountants based in Hillsborough and a number of other local companies and organisations including Vent Direct who sponsored the trophies, and numerous raffle prize donations from the likes of Sheffield Wednesday FC and Sheffield United FC.
“The event was such a great success that Air Environmental have been asked to make it an annual event. We are looking forward to supporting again and have more teams wanting to play next year so we’d all like to make the event bigger and better next year with the support of the local community. It would be great to raise double what we have this year,” says Kate Hill, from Hill & Co Accountants who assisted with the organisation of the day.
